How We Curate
The standard behind every work you see on Artemble
Every application to Artemble is read and judged by a person. Follower counts and prices decide nothing. The question we ask is whether the work belongs in a serious collection.
The Application
Painters apply through one short form, with three to six of their paintings, a few words about their practice and their prices. We ask what they are trying to achieve as artists: what the work is about, and what it is for.
The Review
Every application is reviewed by Artemble's curatorial team. First, skill: can the artist do what they set out to do? Then voice: is the work clearly their own? We also look at whether the paintings hold together as one practice.
The Decision
We accept only painters whose work we would stand behind for years, and we expect to decline most applications. Every applicant hears from us, and those we decline are welcome to apply again as their work develops. When we accept a painter, we take on the work of presenting their paintings well and finding the collectors they belong with.
The Ongoing Standard
The standard applies after acceptance too. Each new painting is reviewed before it goes live, and an artist who misrepresents their work is removed. Holding that line protects collectors and every artist who keeps to it.
