Yuki Tanaka
Kyoto, Japan · b. 1986
Yuki Tanaka works primarily in oil on linen, creating large-scale nocturnal compositions that explore the threshold between waking and dreaming. Trained at the Kyoto City University of Arts and later at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, her practice is deeply rooted in the Japanese concept of ma - the poetic significance of negative space.
Her work has been exhibited across Tokyo, Paris, and New York, and is held in private collections throughout Europe and Asia. Each canvas takes between three and six months to complete, built up through dozens of translucent oil layers until the surface achieves its characteristic inner luminosity.
